Seventh annual Mama's March highlights economics

LANSING, Mich. — Mothering Justice hosted its 2019 Mama's March on Thursday.

This year's theme was "Common Cents: Prioritizing Our Personal Economy."

The organization describes itself as mothers advocating for affordable child care, birth justice, earned paid sick time, family medical leave insurance, raising the minimum wage, and the safety net.

They do this through various outreach programs.

Today, was a day for legislative engagement.

For participants it was an opportunity to march to the state capitol and; as mothers, converse with legislators about family leave, affordable childcare, and infant and maternal mortality.

Today's event started at St. Paul's Episcopal Church on Ottawa Street in Lansing, where organizers and participants discussed leadership development and creating grassroots momentum.
