Seven Sparrow nurses pregnant at same time

LANSING, Mich. — Usually, when an employee gets pregnant, their employer has to make some changes when they go on maternity leave.

But try seven nurses, all pregnant at the same time, at the same hospital, in the same unit.

Of the 18 nurses in Sparrow's neurology unit, seven nurses are expecting with three due this month. In addition, two others have already had babies this year.

The nurses are: Emily Walden who is due April 11th, Ashley Grissom who is due April 26th, Lindse Theaker who is due April 30th, Riley Milbourne who is due August 19th, Danielle Malone who is due August 26th, Jenna Haworth who is due September 16th, and a mystery nurse who is due November 11th.

"Not on purpose at all. She was kind of a surprise, and so was she. It's been very interesting, we just keep tallying them up."

At Sparrow, black shirts represent women who are pregnant, and floor nine-west has no shortage of those.

"The black shirts tell us who is pregnant in the hospital, no matter what department so you can go down the hall and see who's pregnant. But in one unit? Like today there's four of us working who are pregnant, so it's kind of a big ratio," Lindse Theaker, who is due in April said.
