A new set of bills aimed at making the roads safer for cyclists is moving through the state legislature.

A senate committee is approving measures Wednesday that would give cyclists more space on the road, require bicycle safety training for drivers, and impose tougher penalties on drivers who break the law.

The bills are inspired by last year's deadly crash in Kalamazoo that claimed the lives of five cyclists.
