Services set for Michigan lawmaker John Kivela

Services have been state for the Michigan lawmaker who was found dead of an apparent suicide in his Lansing home this week.

Visitation and funeral services for Representative John Kivela will take place on Saturday, May 13 in Marquette. Visitation is set for 10am - 2pm at the Great Lakes Room University Center at Northern Michigan University. His funeral will immediately follow.

The 47-year-old was found dead in his home on Chestnut Street in Lansing Tuesday afternoon. Police have yet to reveal the official cause of death, but it's believed he killed himself after a long battle with alcoholism.

Kivela was arrested Monday evening and taken to jail for operating while intoxicated while on U.S. 127 in Clinton County. Kivela had previously been arrested for drunk driving in 2015.
