Former Leslie school district teacher is sentenced to 7 years in prison for having sex with a student.

Ex-Leslie Teacher David Hovarter who admitted to sexually assaulting a female student, will learn his fate this morning. His sentencing is set for 8:30 a.m. in Ingham County Circuit Court in Lansing.
Hovarter pleaded guilty to 2nd and 3rd degree Criminal Sexual Conduct last month. He was arrested in October of 2016. Authorities say he assaulted a girl who was between 13 and 15 years old.
Hovarter coached the high school cross country teams and taught science at Leslie Middle School. Prosecutors say he used his position as a teacher and coach to take advantage of the teen. He faces up to 15 years in prison when he is sentenced today.
