A semi driver was hurt after rains caused his tractor trailer slid off the exit ramp from southbound US 127 to the I-496 interchange Saturday morning.

Police said the crash happened just after 8:30 a.m. during heavy rains.

The crash caused US 127 to be shutdown for about five hours while crews worked to clean up and remove the damaged semi. In addition, crews from the Michigan Department of Transportation checked the bridge to make sure there was no structural damage.

Amtrak also stopped service on nearby rail lines while crews worked. Service resumed just before 1 p.m. At least one train was affected, delaying passengers for about four hours.

Officials say the semi was hauling wood pallets. The driver was hurt, but is expected to be OK.

No other information about the incident was immediately available.
