Tens of thousands of music lovers will be at this weekend's Common Ground Music Festival in downtown Lansing. With heightened security concerns across the county, safety at the event has become a top priority.
Staff and security are prepared for anything and everything that could possibly happen. Jenna Meyer, the festival's Marketing Director told News 10 that the group meets months in advance to prepare for this type of event.
It's a coordinated effort between Lansing Police, State Police, Emergency Management and private security.
With recent high-profile events within the last few years, the festival's organizer said they've become more aware of how people can be kept safe.
"Specifically speaking of Las Vegas last fall, it was a very unfortunate incident. I know everybody across the music industry as a whole really took that to heart. Security is a huge focus for any outdoor music festival," Meyer said.
This year, the festival will have only one entrance to ensure people's safety. Event-goers will also have to go through a bag check and screening process.
Items allowed inside the venue:
- Non-professional camera
- Lawn or bag chairs
- Clear bags no larger than a small clutch
- Strollers
Items prohibited from the venue:
- Backpacks.
- Outside food or drinks
- A bag that does not fit the safe bag policy
- Over-sized umbrella
- Laser pointers
- Skateboards
- Frisbee
- Selfie and Go Pro sticks
There are also cameras inside the venue as well as city cameras monitoring what's going on.
The festival is from 4 PM to midnight Friday.
