Schoolcraft College offers internships in life sciences

Posted

Students at Schoolcraft College in Livonia can take internships to help them prepare for biological, biomedical and veterinary technician jobs.

The school is partnering with the Michigan Life Science and Innovation Center in Plymouth, west of Detroit.

Schoolcraft's Biology 290 and Biology 295 internships start this fall. Students will use the center's lab space and equipment for research lessons such as cell culture techniques and DNA extraction.

The center is owned by the Michigan Land Bank and has designated laboratory space to train college students in the real-life applications of life science work. It also is home to entrepreneurs and startup companies primarily in the life science industry.

Center Executive Director Fredrick Molnar says such partnerships strengthen the collaboration between higher education and industry.
