The Michigan Treasury Department is sounding the alarm about financial aid scams.
Officials with the department say they're seeing more and more attempts by scammers trying to get banking information from a student who is searching for loans.
Students should never provide that information and be wary of any that require payment, guarantees a scholarship, or their money back.
