Saginaw Highway and Marsh Road construction causing game day headache

LANSING, Mich. — A major road construction project is underway on Marsh Road and Saginaw Highway.

The project could cause a major headache for people heading to the Michigan State University and Western Michigan University football game Saturday.

On the corner of Saginaw Highway and Marsh Road, the construction project has closed off the left lane.

Fox 47 went to see what kind of impact the road closure is causing.

"Waze has me coming across here, but doesn't really prepare me for the construction that's going on here so, I know the construction is needed but it's kind of frustrating," says Dan Collins.

MSU student Harrison Gourlay says, "It's crazy you know, I just want to go straight and you can't."

The Michigan Deportment of Transportation (MDOT) will be resurfacing and repairing sewer installation to improve intersections nearby to clear up the congested area.

"It will all be worth it in the end," Gourlay said.

But getting through this weekend will be a challenge.

"I have friends coming up from Western you know so it's just not cool to have all this traffic," says Gourlay.

"Pack your patience for the game, give yourself a little bit of time and just prepare to watch a football game and go State," Collins.

We reached out to MDOT and they say you can still travel through from I-69 going westbound and you can also take I-69 to 1-27 but it will still be pretty congested on game days.

The roads will be blocked off until Nov. 11.
