The state Department of Natural Resources has shut down a footbridge over the Black River Falls in the Upper Peninsula for safety reasons.
MLive.com reports Thursday that the wooden bridge in Marquette County's Ely Township has been barricaded and will be removed.
A Natural Resources news release says the bridge is missing decking planks and the rails are weak and worn.
The falls are south of Ishpeming. The bridge is in the Gwinn Forest Management Unit and crosses a gorge that channels water from the river during flooding.
An alternate route to the falls is expected to be improved this year.
