EAST LANSING, Mich. — The state’s largest ever VEX Robotics State Championship was at Michigan State University Sunday.

About 500 students from 72 Michigan high schools competed in the tournament.

Organizers say VEX robotics introduces students to basic robot innovation.

" I see these kids that sit down with a laptop and I look at them and say, 'wow' they're writing code right there on the fly. They have got a problem that they need to resolve. It is amazing what these kids are capable of doing." Said Bob Watson with MSU College of Engineering

14 high schools will advance to the 2019 VEX Robotics Work Championship in April.
