Road work on busy road in Jackson starts Monday

Drivers in Jackson might want to spend part of their weekend planning a new route for their morning commute.

Starting Monday, West Avenue between Ganson and North Street will be shut down in both directions for the first stage of a three-stage reconstruction project. Drivers will be forced to use Wisner Street as a detour during the road work.

After Stage 1 is complete and open to traffic, Stage 2 begins, which includes closing West Avenue from Michigan Avenue to Wildwood Avenue. Traffic will be detoured using Argyle Street, Wisner Street, Ganson Street, Wildwood Avenue, and Michigan Avenue.

In addition, the West Avenue/Wildwood Avenue intersection will be closed for approximately seven days toward the end of the project. While the intersection is closed, traffic will use Michigan Avenue.

The project, which is expected to last all summer, includes road reconstruction, as well as storm sewer upgrades, water main replacement/upgrades, sanitary sewer improvements, and sidewalk replacement.
