The ringleader of a group of people who installed card skimmers on gas pumps around Mid-Michigan has been sentenced to 12 years in prison. Antonio DeJesus Perez-Martinez came to the United States from Cuba in 2014. He led a group that installed skimmers on pumps to steal credit and debit card data.
The data was then encoded on cloned cards and used to make fraudulent purchases. The scheme stretched from Michigan to Ohio, Wisconsin, Indiana, Colorado and Texas. Grand Ledge Police and the Lansing FBI office assisted with the investigation.
The following people also received prison sentences in the case:
Raul Gonzalez Falcon (21 months)
Yunier Carballo-Pupo (21 months)
Manuel Perez-Cabrera (21 months)
Michel Velazquez-Gregori (21 months)
Pedro Sanchez-Pupo (37 months)
A seventh defendant, Juan Estrada-Galvez, was allowed to plead guilty to a misdemeanor state charge in Kent County because he had minimal involvement in the scheme.
