MASON, Mich. — On Wednesday, Mason Public Schools (MPS) cut the ribbon to officially unveil the new Robotics Center located inside Mason High School. MPS is continuing to enhance and grow robotics at every age level and through this investment, students will have access to a state-of-the-art space to learn about robotics as well as compete in robotics competitions.
Last fall, a proposal was put together to enhance an underutilized space within the High School to build a place where students could participate in robotics programs and clubs and practice for competitions. The Robotics Center will allow students to put their academics to the test and utilize science, technology, engineering and math skills as well as apply creativity to their designs. The space now features new fabrication equipment and a full size FIRST Robotics field for practice. The Robotics Center will be available for use by the high school robotics club, the Tractor Technicians, the middle school robotics club, the Tractor Technicians in Training as well as elementary clubs.
"Mason is a leader in Robotics and this new space will further enhance our offerings for students,” said Ronald Drzewicki, Ed.S., Mason Public School Superintendent. “We are grateful for the continuing support of our community."
Ben Shoemaker, Mason High School teacher and advisor to the Robotics Team said, “We are excited to utilize this robotics center to grow the current robotics classes and FIRST Robotics programs in Mason. This new space will allow the FIRST Robotics teams to build their designs and practice as well as provide support to other mid-Michigan robotics teams to practice and collaborate with each other.”
The Board of Education approved the plan in November 2018 and construction on the space began immediately. The improvements and renovations to the Robotics Center are paid by general and sinking fund dollars. #
