JACKSON, Mich. — The Jackson County Chamber of Commerce would like to recognize Ella Sharp Museum on their upcoming Ribbon Cutting for Hurst Planetarium on Thursday, January 17 at 3225 Fourth St Jackson,
MI 49203.

The event will take place from 4:30 to 6:00 P.M. and the Ribbon Cutting will take place at 4:45 P.M. The event will celebrate the 50th anniversary and recent updates made to Hurst Planetarium. A Planetarium show will start at 5:30 P.M following the event. Attendees can view the updated Hurst Planetarium, enjoy food, and learn about upcoming public shows.

In 2018, the Hurst Foundation awarded the Ella Sharp Museum a grant of $60,000 to support the expansion of the Peter F. Hurst Planetarium. Thanks to the Hurst Foundation’s grant, the Hurst Planetarium has new seating and physical plant upgrades which has helped grow the Planetarium’s offerings to the community, broadening astronomy events and education.

“This grant will help us do some very exciting things in 2019. 2019 is the 50th anniversary of the Hurst Planetarium, as well as the moon landing, and we wanted to celebrate that with the community. This Hurst Foundation grant will help us do that by starting new things like astronomy lectures, weekly public shows, special planetarium events, and even new astronomy club open to all ages. This grant will help grow a new ‘vision’ for the Hurst Planetarium. One we hope will transform the once classroom into a resource for the all in the community to engage in astronomy and STEM learning.” says Katie Gigliotti, Director of Learning & Engagement for Ella Sharp Museum.
