Residents upset about possible road extension

Plans for a new condominium community is causing controversy in Meridian Township.

The developer wants to build a road through an existing cul-de-sac and some residents are putting up a fight. The project would open up a short street on Creekwood Lane in Haslett for access to the new Copper Creek condos. People who live on the block say the road would attract more traffic from Haslett Road and disturb their quiet community.

A resident on that road, Joyce Breedlove, says "Ad it stands with them using Creekwood as an entrance and an exit to their development it's opening a Pandora’s box we'll recover from. It's just fearful to me to see more traffic on this road."

Township officials say the short street on Creekwood Lane was created for future traffic connections, which is required by the county. The Copper Creek project is designed to attract more families to the area to help increase the number of kids enrolled in Haslett schools.
