LANSING, Mich. — Lansing's Budget Committee wanted to hear from the public on Thursday night.

It got an earful from those in attendance at the Alfreda Schmidt Southside Community Center.

While the deadline to approve the budget is just a few weeks away, city residents provided some push back.

Lansing residents , at the meeting, said they don't want to waste essential dollars on what they believe are frivolous expenses.

One major issue facing the council is how to fund for police and fire services.

It's an expense that is 36% of the city's budget.

To improve infrastructure, the council is currently recommending $2.1 million for city roads.

The response from those in attendance, "Trim the fat and find more money."

Residents speaking at tonight's meeting also said sidewalks are a big concern.

They want to see a serious plan for repairs.

Currently the council is proposing $300,000 to address that issue.

The Lansing City \Council is scheduled to vote on the city's budget May 20.
