The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is re-instating work requirements for people receiving food stamps in several mid-Michigan counties.
Able-bodied adults without dependents will have to spend at least 20 hours a week at work or school, or volunteer at a non-profit in order to receive food assistance.
Those requirements had been waived since 2002 due to high unemployment rates.
The changes take affect January 1 in ten Michigan counties, including Ingham, Eaton, Clinton and Ionia.
