Republican Women's Federation gather to watch, celebrate inauguration

Michigan was one of the states that swung the election to president Trump. His strongest support came "outside" of the big cities.

Some of his voters got together at the Sun Theater in Williamston to watch the inauguration Friday.

“I'm very optimistic for the first time in a very long time,” said Jan Criss.

The popcorn popped and the projector was shining bright much like the excitement inside the theater as a historic day goes down in our nation's capital.

“We wanted to see him on the big screen,” said Linda Lee Tarver, the president of the Women’s Federation of Michigan. “There was not screen big enough in our homes to handle this momentous occasion and we wanted to celebrate it together.”

This group of volunteers work everyday to get women more involved in government but Friday, the group was on their feet in celebration as Donald Trump became the 45th president of the United States.

“It gave hope, It gave promise, It gave a future,” said Tamika Marrow who watched the inauguration. “I thought he did an outstanding job.”

“It brought tears to my eyes,” said Criss. “I’m absolutely thrilled beyond words what his man represents to me and what I think he’s going to do for the country.”

This group didn't abandon Donald Trump, even when video surfaced of him making lewd comments about grabbing women.

“To criticize him for something he did so many years ago when he was less mature and less stable than what he is now today, no it didn't bother me at all,” said Criss.

After an election that pulled our country apart, these supporters hope today marks the beginning of what brings us all back together.

“We can do wonderful things if we can work together and we need to do that,” said Criss.

Following the inauguration, the group went to a local pub to eat pizza and celebrate.
