LANSING, Mich. — Multiple reports say that Juwan Howard has agreed to a five-year deal to become the next Head Basketball Coach at Michigan.
Howard will take over for John Beilein who spent 12 years in Ann Arbor.
News of the two sides negotiating broke slowly throughout the day as it became more clear that the former Michigan star was the top candidate.
Howard was most recently an assistant coach with the Miami Heat after a playing career in the NBA. According to Marcus Fuller of the Star Tribune, his hiring makes him the first African-American coach hired in the Big Ten since Tubby Smith was hired at Minnesota in 2007.
