LANSING, Mich. — One Michigan representative is celebrating a small victory in Washington D.C. Thursday night.
Slotkin is a member of the Homeland Security Committee and she sent a letter this week to Homeland Security Secretary demanding answers regarding the treatment of migrants in detention.
Her bill, The Short-Term Detention Standards Act, will extend the law to require Customs and Border Protection to ensure the provision of appropriate temporary shelter with access to bathroom and shower facilities, water, appropriate nutrition, hygiene, personal grooming items, and sanitation needs.
The bill passed the House of Representatives Thursday.
