MASON, Mich. — A GoFundMe page has been created for a local restaurant that was damaged in a fire on July 1.

The historic restaurant, the Mason Depot Diner, had been serving the people of Mason since 1992. That was when the owners, Rod and Kathy Hunt restored the old train depot into a family friendly diner.

July 1, after the restaurant was closed, a fire that started in the basement, closed the doors until repairs and renovations could be completed.

The Hunt's say that the extent of the damage is severe and that it will take many months before they can reopen.

The diner was also their home.

In the meantime, a member of the Mason Community started a GoFundMe to help with the rebuild.

If you'd rather, they posted other ways to give:

"Any individuals who prefer to make monetary donations in the form of cash or check should call 517-449-0642. For more information, please direct any questions to SaveTheMasonDepot@gmail.com."
