The Feds announce a landmark move to protect the public health of the nation.

Sweeping new rules regulating all tobacco related products, which includes e-cigarettes, cigars, hookah tobacco and pipe tobacco.

The new rules announced Thursday bans the sale of e-cigs to Americans under the age of eighteen and requires consumers show a photo i-d to prove their age.

The new rules will also require health warnings on all packages and advertisements.

The move comes amid growing concern about the long-term health effects of e-cig vapor, and an increase in vaping by teen smokers.

The rules would also require e-cigarette manufacturers to register with the FDA and provide the agency a detailed list of what their products are made of and how they're made.

There is no regulation at the state level when it comes to prohibiting the sale of e-cigarettes to minors. Governor Snyder vetoed legislation last year because of a disagreement with lawmakers over how to regulate them.

Ingham County took its own initiative and passed a regulation banning the sale, which went into effect in January. In August E-Cigs, Vaporizers and any other tobacco product will no longer be allowed on the campus of MSU.

The ordinance was approved by the board last year as part of an effort to help people kick the habit.
