LANSING, Mich. — March is Red Cross Month, and all month long FOX 47 News has brought you stories about how the organization makes a difference in your community.

Coming up next month, the Red Cross volunteers will host a fire alarm blitz.

Starting at the end of April and gong through the beginning of May, they will install free smoke alarms in homes that need them.

They'll also be replacing batteries in existing alarms.

It's all about saving lives.

Joseph Dunn, Red Cross Volunteer said, "Even if you want to kind of just get out of your house and be around an office environment with other volunteers that are coming for one purpose, to help others. It's an awesome office and an awesome environment to be a part of."

Every day, across the nation, 7 people die in house fires.

Most die in homes without working fire alarms.

If you're interested in volunteering for the fire alarm blitz -- or want to join the Red Cross team -- register online at redcross.org or call your local Red Cross.
