It will cost at least $10,000 to recount the East Lansing school board election.

Ingham County Clerk Barb Byrum told News 10 the that the recount will start Monday at the Fairgrounds in Mason.

Teams of workers will recount 23 precincts by hand.

Each team will consist of at least one democrat and one republican.

Noel Garcia requested the recount last month after losing a seat on the school board by just 39 votes.

He claims there were two mistakes made on election day that cost him the race.

First he says that there was an error in how absentee ballots were adjudicated and second, mistakes in how precinct ballot markings were interpreted.

Garcia is required to pay $25 per precinct being recounted and the East Lansing School District will cover the rest of the cost.

Byrum says her office is still looking for recount workers, especially republicans.

The pay rate will be set by the Ingham County Board of Canvassers during a meeting tomorrow at 9 a.m. at the Grady Porter Building in Lansing.
