REACH Studio Art Center’s Teen Open Studio (TOS) is unveiling a Community Art Project (CAPs) created in partnership with the City Rescue Mission to revitalize a wall acting as a backdrop for a playground covered with patches of painted over graffiti. The mural is 10 feet tall x 106 long and features a fantasy forest that ranges from sunrise to nightfall, full of imaginary creatures designed by teens. Teens interviewed, hired and worked alongside two guest artists, Mary Molnar and Julie Smith for 20 weeks to complete the mural.
The mural is located at the City Rescue Mission’s women and children’s shelter, where safe haven is provided to an average of 80 women and children every night (28 children per day).
Join us on Thursday, October 25th at 5pm at the City Rescue Mission playground at 2216 S. Cedar Street (access off Maplewood Ave), in Lansing to celebrate the completion of this project!
