Lansing City Council is taking a step forward in the re-development of city hall.

Monday night Council members started reviewing the plan to sell the building to Chicago-based developer, Beitler Real Estate.

The plan includes the construction of a new city hall at the former headquarters of the Lansing State Journal. That's on the corner of Lenawee Street and Grand Avenue.

The proposal calls for the current city hall will be transformed into a hotel.

Council members say they have a lot of questions, including where the police department, district court and city lockup will go, before they can give the plan their seal of approval.

Lansing will buy the new city hall for a maximum of $50 million.

It'll be paid for with money from a lease, and property tax revenue from the hotel.
