Rally held for Mid-Michigan teen shot and killed by officer two years ago

Posted

Family and friends of a teenager shot and killed by police rallied in honor of the anniversary of his death Saturday.

Deven Guilford died during a traffic stop on February 28th, 2015.

Guilford was pulled over by Eaton County Sheriff's Sergeant Jonathan Frost in Roxand Township.

Guilford refused to give the sergeant his license, registration, or proof of insurance after he was pulled over for flashing his high beams.

Frost refused to provide his badge number.

A scuffle ensued when frost put Guilford on the ground to cuff him.

It ended when Frost shot Guilford seven times.

"He got angry at a young boy and was going pull him out of the car and teach him a lesson,” said Brian Guilford, Deven’s father. “I just hope in the future something can change so there's not another father standing here because a police officer felt the freedom to do the same thing because there's no accountability right now."

Guilford's family is suing frost in federal court.

A judge dismissed Eaton County as a defendant.

Trial is scheduled to start this summer.
