On Wednesday, April 19 just after 2:00 p.m. Eaton County Delta Patrol was sent to Meijer at 5125 W. Saginaw Hwy to investigate retail fraud.
A witness told Dispatch that there were male subjects concealing items in the garden center area, and another male subject was waiting in the parking lot in a blue Nissan Altima. The witness said that the subject was motioning for the others to exit in a certain area.
While responding officers were on their way they were informed that the male subject who had been in the garden area had moved to outside of the fence, and had handed a package to the driver of the blue Nissan. They then all traveled west out of the parking lot.
The suspect vehicle was located by officers near Chick-Fil-A and Aldi. Officers initiated a traffic stop. The driver complied at first, and stopped when the patrol unit overhead lights were activated. When the officer told them to turn the vehicle off, the driver fled, driving toward Ivan Dr. A A short pursuit ensued.
The suspect ran the traffic light at Michigan/Waverly and crashed into two other cars. The crash resulted in minor injuries. Lansing Twp. Police Department is investigating the crash.
The stolen merchandise was located in the back seat of the suspect vehicle. Two male subjects inside the vehicle were arrested for retail fraud, flee and elude, and other related charges.
