Public speaks out about the future of the Lansing City Market

Posted

Lansing Mayor Andy Schor got an earful from people upset about the demise of the Lansing City Market and from those who have ideas on how to save it.

Thursday night residents showed up in large numbers to pitch ideas to the mayor about what can be done to save the market.

Some say the market needs to attract more vendors and farmers where people can buy produce, meat, herbs and other food and local goods.

Others say the financial structure needs to be adjusted with changes to the city subsidy and rent.

Another factor that was echoed by many was the limited parking. Suggestions were made for additional spaces.

In addition people also came to vent and express their frustrations is how the market is managed.

Mayor Schor said he will consider ideas that will activate the space that are sustainable and financeable, after proper vetting.

The public is open to submit proposals to the mayor via email at lansing.mayor@lansingmi.gov.
