Meridian Township's new Sexual Assault Committee will be meeting this Friday, June 22.

Prior to the meeting, they are inviting the public to attend an open comment section of the meeting.

The meetings are scheduled on June 22 and September 21 at noon.

The public portion of the meeting is scheduled between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m.

The Sexual Assault Prevention Committee consists of Haslett Public Schools, Okemos Public Schools, Meridian Township Police Department, Meridian Township Board and Brianne Randall-Gay.

Randall-Gay went to Haslett High School and is a survivor of former MSU doctor, Larry Nassar.

It is her goal, along with the township, to provide evidence-based, age appropriate education regarding sexual abuse to the community. By doing this, they hope to empower victims to come forward while also providing adults the tools needed to be able to recognize signs of abuse and how to respond appropriately.

Township Manager, Frank Walsh says that protecting the community against sexual predators remains a top priority for the township.
