Program Helps Feed Children Over Summer

While summer can be exciting time for kids -- it can also create a burden for parents who don't know where their child's next meal will come from.

A lot of mid-Michigan families rely on school lunches, but the reality is, thousands of homes won't have enough food to feed their kids in Ingham County this summer.

That's why the YMCA and Northwest Initiative is working to make sure kids don't go hungry during the summer break.

Peggy Vaughn-Payne, the Northwest Initiative Executive Director said, "The Y's summer lunch program brings in a fitness bus, it makes a stop for 20 minutes, and they're going to do physical therapy and fitness activities with all the participants and then the lunch bus pulls up and the children get to eat a good lunch."

The Healthy Living Mobile Kitchen Bus will make 12 stops during the week starting on June 10th.
