Utility crews have been working to restore power and respond to downed power line calls due to the high winds Thursday night.

FOX 47's Cryss Walker tracked the outages and spoke the Lansing Fire Department and the Board of Water & Light about the issue.

Residents at the Marketplace Apartments were evacuated after a fire alarm went off for what turned out to be an electrical glitch on Thursday night.

“We had a power surge somewhere within the city and our dispatch center received multiple trips of monitored fire alarm systems,” said Lansing Fire Battalion Chief Eric Weber.

The Ramada Inn hotel on Saginaw Highway also experienced a fire alarm that went off because of strong winds.

Technicians from BWL worked to repair a downed wire on the 300 block of South Pennsylvania Thursday.

“We had some reports of some wires sparking or we've had reports of transformers that were either called in by callers being popped. We'll investigate as 911 response and turn it over to the Board of Water and Light,” said Weber.

BWL officials said that power is restored to residents near Creyts and Saginaw after crews came out to repair a fuse pole that left more than 1,800 homes and businesses in the dark.

“If you see fire or sparking coming from a power line or a transformer, please stay away from it and call 911 and report it,” Weber said.
