Four post offices in Mid-Michigan are open Sundays until Christmas.
Not many people came to the Lansing Main Office, open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sunday, but Sabrina Todd of the U.S. Postal Service says that might be because people don't realize the office is open.
That's the case with Dawn Reinhardt, who came to the office to check her mail and decided to buy stamps while the store wasn't crowded. "I did hear that they were going to be delivering packages I believe seven days a week," she said. "But I didn't know the post office was going to be open."
Todd says it's to make things more convenient for customers. "We have a lot of people who do shopping on the weekends and rather than waiting until Monday to mail off their packages, we're opening up on Sunday, so that we can be of assistance to them with whatever services they need from the post office," she said.
The East Lansing post office is open Sunday, December 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Okemos office is open that day as well from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the Dewitt office is open 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Lansing Main Office also has an automated kiosk that customers can use to mail packages and buy stamps 24 hours a day.
