The possible closing of some academically underperforming schools is expected to be discussed by Detroit youth during an annual leadership event.
The Neighborhood Service Organization's Youth Initiatives Project Female Empowerment Breakfast will be held March 9 at the Matrix Center.
Students from Osborn High School and Durfee Middle School are scheduled to attend the event which supports females in overcoming challenges and encourages them to make a difference in their communities.
Osborn is among about two dozen schools in Detroit and 38 across the state on the state's School Reform Office closure list.
The Neighborhood Service Organization is a private, nonprofit human services agency. The Youth Initiatives Project encourages youth activism and peer-to-peer collaboration to improve the capacity of neighborhood and community organizations.
