When a vehicle did not yield for a stop sign in Ionia County, the driver’s vehicle collided with a semi-truck, killing the driver of the car, Ionia County Sheriff’s Department says.
The man killed in the crash has been identified as Alexander John Shiraef, of Porland, Mich., Undersheriff Charles Noll said.
The crash occurred around 6:30 p.m. Monday, at the intersection of M-66 and Grand River Avenue.
Preliminary investigation reveals that Shiraef was heading west on Grand River Avenue and did not stop at at the stop sign. His vehicle then collided with the trailer of the semi-truck, Noll said. Shiraef was pronounced dead at the scene.
Noll said the driver of the semi-truck was not injured.
The crash remains under investigation, but alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor, Noll said.
Assisting on scene were Michigan State Police, Berlin-Orange Fire Department, Ionia Department of Public Safety, Ionia County Victim Advocates, Reed and Hoppes Towing, Lake Funeral Home and the NuVu gas station.
