IONIA, Michigan — The investigation continues into what caused a large fire at a former commercial building in Ionia.
Ionia Department of Public Safety officers were dispatched to the building at the intersection of E Bluewater Hwy (M-21) and Stage Rd at 2:18 a.m. Sunday. .
When officers arrived the east side of the building was fully engulfed in flames on multiple floors.
Portions of the building collapsed as the fire grew.
Multiple fire departments were called to the scene including Lyons-Muir, Pewamo, Ronald, Hubbardston, Orleans, Saranac, Portland, and Berlin-Orange Fire Departments.
Ionia County Victim's Advocates are assisting the residents that were living in the building.
Nobody was hurt.
