A portion of Highway M-52 will be named in honor of Ingham County Deputy Sheriff Grant Whitaker. The legislation was signed Tuesday by Gov. Rick Snyder. Whitaker was killed in the line of duty when his vehicle crashed during a pursuit on December 7, 2014.

“Every single day law enforcement officers put their lives at risk on behalf of the people of our state, and Deputy Whitaker gave the ultimate sacrifice to protect his fellow Michiganders,” Snyder said. “He served his fellow citizens with honor and bravery, and his sacrifice will never be forgotten. Naming a portion of this highway is just one way we can pay tribute to his memory and legacy of service to the state of Michigan.”

The portion of highway on M-52 is in Ingham County beginning at the southern intersection of Highway M-52 and Highway M-106 to the intersection of Highway M-52 and Highway M-36 in Stockbridge Township.
