LANSING, Mich. — The Naing Myanmar Family Restaurant in Lansing lives on.
Moe Israel has owned the business for six years.
For the past year, he's been trying to negotiate with the previous owner to buy the property.
The owner owed nearly $60,000 in back taxes.
The strip mall at 3308 South Cedar Street where the restaurant sits went into foreclosure and was put up for auction.
During the Ingham County Tax Sale Tuesday, the restaurant's owner bid $87,000 to buy the strip mall.
The owner says he plans on expanding the restaurant and adding a grocery store.
"We had five different bidders. Prices went up higher than I thought they would, and it settled out at $87,000 for the live auction price," said Ingham County treasurer Eric Schertzing.
"They're here long hours. The food is delicious. They're the nicest people in the world and they've made a place for themselves here," said Lark Burger who loves the restaurant.
Moe plans to expand the restaurant, add a grocery store and remodel each suite.
