A Republican candidate for Governor has officially filed to get into the race. Dr. Jim Hines turned in more than 22,000 signed petitions to the Secretary of State Monday.

Hines is a political rookie. He says his roles as a doctor, entrepreneur and missionary make him best equipped to be Governor, especially when compared to other candidates.

Hines said, "They have a long political history, I do not. And as I travel the state I'm finding there's a lot interest for someone who doesn't have a long political history and who wants to put people first. So the people of Michigan will decide."

Hines will be traveling around the state in an RV to get his name out.
He's hoping to have the same success as Governor Rick Snyder, who had no political background when he ran.
