DELHI TOWNSHIP, Mich. — If you happened to drive along Cedar Street in Delhi Township, you may have seen a lot of police at an old motel.
Multiple law enforcement agencies were using the former "Happy's Inn" as a training facility from 11AM to 5 PM Wednesday.
The training was a joint effort between the Ingham County Sheriff's Office, East Lansing, Meridian Township and Michigan State University Police. Delhi Township bought the property and lets them use it to gain experience in different scenarios such as search warrant, drug and hostage situations and barricaded subjects.
A sheriff's deputy told FOX 47 News that the training lets all of the agencies be up to speed with new tactics and equipment.
"The important thing is that everyone on my team is on the same page. By having a facility like this for us to use allows us to use all of our elements. We get to use our snipers and canines for perimeter points. the entry guys and we can use our radios and vehicles," said Sgt. Chauncey Shattuck, an Ingham County Sheriff's Deputy.
What's unique about this type of training is that there are multiple rooms and hallways that the agencies can use and it's very different than their basic rooms they train in at the station.
The training occurs every month.
