The opioid epidemic isn't an easy problem to solve but police are doing everything they can to try. Lansing area law enforcement will join forces Tuesday to announce a new effort to help people struggling with drug addictions.
The plan involves expanding the Angel Program local state police recently joined. It's not a conventional program, but state police hope it will give people struggling with drug additions a way to get clean. Both Lansing and Jackson state police are part of the Angel Program, where someone who's using drugs can go to either post for help and they won't be arrested or investigated. Troopers are already seeing some success with two people going to the Jackson post in recent weeks.
Now police are hoping to expand that network, adding both the Ingham County Sheriff's Office and Lansing Police Department.
MSP hasn't given away the details of how that partnership will work just yet, but say that's coming Tuesday afternoon. The department will hold a press conference at 2 p.m. at the MSP Lansing Post.
