UPDATE: Police surround home in Lansing Township

Lansing Township police have confirmed that the situation on Mifflin Avenue, began last night around 10:30 PM when a man assaulted his neighbor with a shovel. The neighbor was treated at the scene by paramedics. Police are working to find out if the man is armed and in a home on Mifflin.

Police have obtained a search and arrest warrant and now they are making a tactical decision how to enter the house. They have had limited contact with the man over the night, but they do believe he is in the house.

Negotiators were brought in, but were unable to make any progress with the man.

Our crews on scene say they heard multiple bangs and noticed smoke from outside the home.

An additional SWAT team has now been brought in.

Michigan State Police are calling it a high risk search warrant.

Police are not confirming if the man inside the home has a weapon.

Multiple law enforcement agencies have a home surrounded in Lansing Township.

Officers from various departments including Lansing Township, Lansing Police and State Police are staked outside of a home on Mifflin Avenue. Police have been at the house all night long.

We are working to find out exactly what is happening there, but a man reportedly is inside, possibly armed, and refusing to surrender.
