UPDATE:
A shooting in downtown Jackson on the 300 block of Van Buren street caused nearby Jackson High to go into a lock down status for a period of time on Thursday.
Police say a 26-year-old male victim was shot multiple times. No information on his condition has been released.
Police believe that this was not a random event. They think the man was shot in a nearby apartment, then ran across the street where he collapsed outside of a house.
Police don't know how many suspects may have been involved. No arrests have been made.

A police situation near Jackson High School caused the school to activate an external lock down.
Principal Barbara Baird-Pauli says the Jackson Police department notified the school shortly before 1:00 PM on Thursday, February 16, 2017 that there was a police situation in close proximity to the school.
The school initiated an external lock down while police investigated the situation. The school locked all external and internal doors, and didn't allow exit or entry from the building while the lock down was in place.
The school says that the school continued with its regular daily schedule while the lock down was in place.
The school notified parents of the lock down via their automated system.
The lock down was lifted around 1:20 PM.
FOX 47 has a crew on the way to the scene, and is working to find out more details.
