UPDATE - Police: Shooting in Charlotte involved officer

CHARLOTTE, Mich. — UPDATE 1/13/19:
Eaton County, City of Charlotte, Michigan. Update to the officer involved shooting which took place within the City of Charlotte, MI on January 11, 2019

On January 11, 2019 at 4:15 p.m., Eaton County 911 received a phone call reference a disturbance in the 100 block of 4th Street within the City of Charlotte. Charlotte Police Department officers were dispatched to this area and upon their arrival learned a domestic situation was taking place between two family members. After police were on scene, Eaton County 911 was notified shots had been fired by officers. One suspect, who is a 25-year-old female, was transported from the scene by ambulance to a hospital in Charlotte. The suspect was later transported by helicopter to Sparrow Hospital in Lansing. At the request of the Charlotte Police Department, the Michigan State Police (MSP), First District Special Investigation Section was requested to respond to investigate this officer involved shooting as well as the original domestic disturbance call. Additional MSP resources responded to the scene including crime lab personnel and crime scene reconstruction equipment. A firearm which did not belong to law enforcement personnel was recovered from the scene. Once the investigation of the original domestic disturbance is complete, it will be forwarded to the Eaton County Prosecutor’s Office for their review of criminal charges. Additionally, once the investigation regarding the officer involved shooting has been completed, that report will also be forwarded to the Eaton County Prosecutor’s Office for their review.

UPDATE 1/11/19:
Michigan State Police detectives confirm that Friday afternoon's shooting involved a Charlotte officer.

There is a large police presence outside of a home on Fourth Street in downtown Charlotte after reports of a shooting.

Michigan State Police Lt. Darren Green confirms one person was shot and taken to a hospital at around 4:15 p.m. Friday.

Michigan State Police, Charlotte Police and Eaton County deputies are on the scene, as well as the Lansing Police Forensic team.

The shooting happened outside of a home on Fourth Street in downtown Charlotte.

Police were telling people to avoid the area between Sheldon and Cochran during the investigation.

The shooting victim's condition is unknown at this time.
