LANSING, Mich. — Lansing police confirm the newborn baby found dead in a car on March 19 had no signs of injury or trauma. The girl's mother, Ashley Shade is still missing. Police tell fox47news.com they believe she is alive and is in the area.

Shade has been missing since March 18. Police say she gave birth at home and did not seek medical attention for herself or the baby. Her family says she hid the pregnancy. Detroit TV station WDIV spoke to family members who say Shade has 7 other children, 5 of whom are in protective custody because of her mental health and drug problems.

Her daughter's body was found in her car near the corner of Washington Avenue and Kilborn Street, south of Old Town. The cause of death has not been determined. Ashley Shade is 5-foot-8, weighs around 140 pounds and has brown hair and blue eyes. Anyone who's seen her is asked to call Lansing police.
