Firefighters and Police officers, from all over the state, will be rallying at the Capitol on Wednesday to protect their retirement benefits.

Lawmakers from both parties tell FOX 47's Marcus Dash there has been talk at the Capitol of giving local governments the power to strip retired police and firefighters of their benefits.

Mark Docherty, President of the Professional Firefighters Union says, that first responders understand the risk that is involved in their job, and they want to know that their families will be taken care of if anything ever happens to them in the line of duty.

Representative Jewell Jones wants the state to consider revenue sharing to help out local governments and first responders.

On the other hand, State Senator Rick Jones does not want the state to get involved, he wants local governments to figure it out for themselves.
