Police in Jackson are investigating a shooting that occurred at approximately 12:51 PM on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 in the 1400 block of Francis Street, in the parking lot of a Sunoco Station.

A 23-year-old man was pumping gas when a vehicle pulled up on Wall Street, and a person inside the vehicle began shooting out of the passenger window at the victim. The victim was struck in the leg. The victim was armed with a handgun and returned fire.

The victim then left the scene in a white Chrysler; police responding to the incident stopped the vehicle near the intersection of Cooper and Michigan Avenue. The victim was located inside the vehicle and was transported to the hospital for treatment.

Police say they are looking for a blue Honda Accord that was said to be involved in the shooting, according to witnesses.

Police are investigating the shooting to see if it was related, or possibly retaliation for shootings that took place on Summit, and Griswold on July 11, 2016.
