HASLETT, Mich. — A warning to lock your cars -- especially if you live in Meridian Township.

Police are investigating a string of break-ins.

Jennifer Kramer is one of several people who have reported things stolen from their cars.

She's been living in Haslett for more than two decades and until this weekend she never worried about things like this.

Security cam footage shows a man rummaging through Jennifer's daughters car this weekend.

Skipping away in victory with her purse.

"They were pretty quick," said Kramer. "He actually grabs her purse from the car running out to the other accomplice, so they are just getting a thrill from robbing people."

The suspects wasted no time with the stolen credit card.

"The first charge that went through was $480 at the Meijer in Lansing that we never go to," said Kramer.

Creamer admits the car was unlocked, but is still disgusted by the theft.

"It makes you just sad that in your own community this is happening and I just feel bad for all our friends and neighbors," said Kramer. "I just want them to be safe."

Security footage like Kramer's is helping the Meridian Township Police as they investigate an increase in break ins throughout the area.

"Really it has been a county wide and a Tri-County wide issue if you look at other departments, they are having the same issues as we are," said Lieutenant Rick Grillo of Meridian Township Police.

The police say finding the suspects has been challenging.

"We are getting into the neighborhoods a lot better with direct patrols. having officers on bicycles, walking in the neighborhoods, trying to catch these people, but the problem with that its like looking for a needle in a haystack," said Grillo.

Meridian Township turned to the public for help, releasing photos to the public who they believe are involved in the auto larcenies.

"I just talked to one of my detectives and he said all three have lead to good leads determining who these three people are and they are actively being sought out," said Grillo.

Police tell News 10 the most break ins have happened south of Kinawa Drive in Okemos and in the northern part of the township in the Tower Gardens and Heritage Hills area.
